GGSC met on November 13, 2020 at the Delta Project’s Community Garden in Winnsboro. Delta staffers, Katie Schroeder and Farrar Brown Crigler, led members on a garden tour and gave an informative overview of the programs
offered to area youth and residents.

GGSC members participated in revealing family recipes and best practices for home based food preservation. Club members discussed proper food containers and storage environments.

Plant of the Month: Heather Carroll provided a cactus/succulent plant which was won by Charlotte Little.
Floral Design: Tami Boyd provided lovely summer arrangements featuring zinnias and okra in vibrant green vases.

The March meeting of Garden Gate Study Club featured Stuart Roane, owner of Evergreen Landscaping Services. In his program, “Methods of Pruning Shrubbery and Trees,” Roane instructed club members how to properly prune landscape shrubbery and trees. Refreshments were provided by Karen Busby and Martha Burnside. Martha Burnside also arranged the Floral Design which featured azaleas and fern. Plant of the month was won by Lisa Kiper.

Program: Mary Sue Colvin, Mary Belle White and Sue Nugent, GGSC floral arrangers, demonstrated various methods and guidelines for preparing arrangements for the flower show at the Catfish Festival.
Julia Gilmore created two line design arrangements. She used redbud and flowering pear branches to emphasize the line of each.
Mary Belle White created a mass arrangement featuring pink alstroemeria, loropetalum, wax flower and nandina greenery.
Mary Sue Colvin created a line mass arrangement featuring a Hogarth curve and two vertical arrangements. She displayed photos of several different versions of each arrangement for comparison.

A collection of dried hydrangeas was created by Marguerete McLemore for each table as the floral design.
Bo Willis, florist at Mulhearn Flower Shop, demonstrated the use of line, mass and filler flowers in creating floral designs for your home, church or as a gift. These designs were auctioned off to the highest bidder. The teacup design was won by Heather Carroll, the asymmetrical cube design was won by Suzanne Mercer and the church arrangement was won by Julia Gilmore. Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church enjoyed the arrangement on Sunday.
